He is currently Head of Music and a Board member of the Institute of United States Studies at London University. Born in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England, he went to Cambridge as Organ Scholar of Queens' College and then spent three formative years in New York, initially at the Juilliard School. From this time onwards Dickinson's music has been regularly commissioned, performed, broadcast, and recorded with some of the leading international performers. Peter Dickinson's writings, apart from many articles for the leading periodicals, include the first book on Sir Lennox Berkeley (1989) and this full study of the popular pianist, composer, educator and celebrity, Billy Mayerl. |
